1975~1978年,横山胜也师事，也向许多虚无僧尺八家学习尺八。NHK日本传统音乐技能者养成班毕业。美国贝克莱音乐院学习古典音乐·现代音乐的作曲和爵士乐理论，并获得最优秀奖。美国新英格兰音乐院作曲科硕士。受邀参予由日本外务省，国际交流基金等的文化推广活动，在全世界约30个国家公演。全世界40多个电视台演出。

是当前日本相当活跃的演奏家,作曲家,编曲家,因为西方音乐丰富的背景,让他可以很轻鬆的与众多不同西洋乐器的著名演奏家合作演出,演出曲目相当广泛,包含虚无僧的古典曲目，爵士乐，现代音乐，即兴演奏。也同时寻求日本传统音乐创新的可能性，在日本各地经常举办音乐会。

是日本较少见擅长循环呼吸法(一边吹同时一边吸气，没有歇口气持续吹的技术)的尺八演奏者，出版的CD作品中可以见到循环呼吸法的大量使用.

1995年与两位日本筝的演奏家合组「Kokoo」表演团体。

他的尺八CD作品「虚无僧尺八世界--萨慈」卖得非常好,也获得1999年日本文化厅艺术节唱片部门优秀奖,哥伦比亚·黄金·软盘奖特别奖获奖。第18届文化厅舞台艺术创作奖励奖。第19次松尾文艺奖获奖。现在为日本现代音乐协会会员。

Note: 中村 明一的尺八音乐对某些传统且保守的音乐人士显然有格格不入的感觉,像他在他的尺八音乐中大量使用的循环呼吸法对某些习惯中规中矩的尺八人士相当不以为然. 但如果你有机会听听他的音乐,你可能也会喜欢上他独树一格的表演方式,他的获奖其实相当一方面也显示出日本音乐界对他勇于突破传统的肯定. 如果你对传统尺八的表现方式觉得意犹未尽,中村明一的音乐或许会给你全然不同的感受.

Nakamura studied composition and jazz theory at Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory in the United States. As a composer and arranger, he has received commissions from Jan Sibelius String Quartet in Finland, WDR in Germany, and many others. Nakamura's career branched out from traditional Zen music into a wide range of musical genres including rock, jazz, and contemporary music. He has performed throughout the world under the sponsorship of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Japan Foundation, and other organizations.
 In 1988 Nakamura formed the group Forest and produced its first album "Neutral Point." Released in the U.S.A. by JVC through MCA distribution in 1991, it reached Number 8 in FM station WKNC's "World Cafe" chart. Nakamura was the recipient of the 19th Matsuo Performing Arts Prize. His album "The World of Zen Music: Saji," released by Nippon Columbia, was awarded the Prize for Excellence in the Record Category of the 1999 Arts Festival sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, as well as Nippon Columbia's Golden Disc Award. He is a member of the Japan Society for Contemporary Music.
 
Akikazu Nakamura studied the shakuhachi under Katsuya Yokoyama and several masters of the komuso shakuhachi. He also studied at the NHK school of traditional music. He then went on to study composition and jazz theory at the Berklee College of Music in the United States, graduating summa cum laude. He continued his studies in the United States as a scholarship student at the New England Conservatory, studying composition and third-stream music in the graduate school. He has performed in around 30 countries all over the world under the sponsorship of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Japan Foundation, etc. He has appeared on more than 40 broadcasting stations worldwide. While rooting his activities in the classical field, he has branched out into a wide range of musical genres including rock, jazz, contemporary music, improvisation, and cross-genre collaborations. He has developed his own unique method of circular breathing which enables him to play continuously for long periods of time without a break in the sound flow. He was awarded the 19th Matsuo Performing Arts Prize. His album The World of Zen Music: Saji released by Nippon Columbia in 1999 was awarded the Prize for Excellence in the Record Category of the 1999 Arts Festival sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs together with the Columbia Golden Disc Special Prize.

As a composer and arranger, Akikazu Nakamura has received commissions from German national radio (WDR), from the Jan Sibelius String Quartet in Finland and from many others. He was awarded the 18th Encouragement Prize for Creative Work in the Stage Arts by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. He is a member of the Japanese Society for Contemporary Music
 
Akikazu Nakamura studied shakuhachi with Katsuya Yokayama from 1975 to 1978, when he was certified as a master himself. He attended the Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory and has taught at the Tokyo College of Music, Nihon University and Yokohama National University. He currently heads his own music school in Tokyo.

现在までに、YAS-KAZ、渡辺香津美、井上鑑、和田アキラ、棺沼孝三、洼田晴男、富樫雅彦、近藤等则、板桥文夫、エ儿ヴィン?ジョーンズ、ミノ?シネ儿、トミー?キャンベ儿、ジョセフ?ジャーマン、ネッド?ローゼンバーグ、グレン?ヴェレッツ、ダグラス?ユワート、ポー儿?ズーコフスキー、他之共演。パーカッショニストのミノ?シネ儿（マイ儿ス?デイヴィス?グ儿ープ、ウェザー?リポート、スティング等での活跃で知られる）之のデュオも展开。世界のトップギタリスト、ジョン?マクラフリン之のコラボレーションも行う。

自ら开発した方法による循环呼吸（吹きながら同时に息を吸い、息継ぎなしに吹き続ける技术）を自在に操る尺八奏者であり、かつ作曲?编曲家之しても活跃し、ドイツ国宫放送、フィンランドのジャン?シベリウス弦楽四重奏団など各方面より委嘱作品多数。

邦楽の新しい可能性を求めて、コンサートのプロデュースも行う。また现在、尺八之筝によるバンド「Kokoo（コクー）」を率いて活动中。

第19回松尾芸能赏受赏。日本コロムビアよりリリースしたア儿バム「虚无僧尺八の世界 萨慈」により平成11年度文化庁芸术祭レコード部门优秀赏およびコロムビア?ゴー儿デン?ディスク赏特别赏受赏。第18回文化庁舞台芸术创作奖励赏。日本现代音楽协会会员。
